Carpe diem in journalism: students train on Channel 5

26 вересня 2023 року

Greetings to all! I, Vladyslav Moshkivskyi, 4th year student specialty "Journalism" the faculty of humanities and pedagogy. In the summer I had the opportunity to take an internship on the radio, and now I am doing an internship on one of the channels of Ukraine – on "5th"!

I was happy when my job was reviewed and subsequently invited to the first interview in my life. It was conducted by the host and head of the international department of "Channel 5" Mykhailo Prudnyk. I am very grateful to him, both for this opportunity and for the useful and important instructions that he gave me! Immediately after the interview, I was introduced to the details of the work of international journalist: how to write news correctly, where to get the material from, and how to put it all together.

Everything that I was told in lectures and what I did in practical classes at the University and at the channel "Your NULES", is needed in life. It was easy for me to get acquainted with the theory of plot construction, synchrons, but in practice, especially in the first days, it was not easy. Thanks to Mykhailo's help and a friendly team, I learned step by step. I felt a real journalistic atmosphere: in the newsroom, I tracked events, instantly wrote about it in the news and sent it live. I can't convey the emotions when your text, which was checked by the editors, is read out by the host or presenter. This is something incredible, you feel endless responsibility for what you have written.

The most difficult and dynamic work of a journalist is the creation of stories. Here I felt all the "Nine circles of hell by Dante", because just imagine! You must first, as always, read so much material that you can understand the smallest details. Only then, on your creative and plot path, at a traffic light, the "yellow light" turns on: writing material. Everything that the instructors talked about in pairs is relevant: building the text according to the "returned pyramid", journalistic and understandable style, selecting synchrons of participants in a certain event. When this is done, you send it for review to editors or colleagues, in my case, in "international unit." After the final: "OK", the "green light" turns on in front of you, so that you read it all out, find the voices of your colleagues you need for the plot, and read them. Here I remember a phrase that the teachers said: "A journalist should be universal: write, read, and edit". When all the material is collected, then – installation. The most important thing here is that every little thing is extremely important! Starting from the order of frames: general, medium and large, ending with captions.

The penultimate step is to check the story itself as an editing specialist, and then by the editorial team. My colleagues helped me create professional stories! After the finished story is sent to the air, you exhale and look forward to it in the news agency. And then again in a circle! Therefore, choosing to study in NULES on specialty "Journalism" you don't have to worry that you'll get useful theory and practice here. I consolidate this with my own experience!

I am cordially grateful to" 5th channel" for completing the internship, which continues, and I look forward to the next creative and professional challenges! Thank you to all the teachers of the specialty "Journalism"!
