NUBiP of Ukraine deepens cooperation with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

Within the framework of the strategy of internationalization and strengthening of scientific and educational potential, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine held a working meeting with the delegation of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU).

Event organized with the support of Swedish International Development Agency, SIDA, has become another step in the development of partnership between universities united by a common desire for Sustainable Development and innovation.

NUBiP of Ukraine at the gathering was presented by the rector of the university Vadym TKACHUK, vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work and international activities Oleksandr LABENKO, vice-rector for research and innovation Oksana TONKHA, head of international projects department Oleksandr SOSHENSKYI and head of the research department Volodymyr OTCHENASHKO.

During the meeting, SLU representatives — Ioannis Dimitriou, Geir Löe, Sara Gräslund — presented current areas of cooperation and outlined opportunities for further scientific and educational exchange. In particular, the Memorandum of understanding between NUBiP of Ukraine and SLU, signed in 2024, as well as a number of other agreements with Ukrainian higher education institutions, was confirmed. This creates a broad platform for collaborative programs, internships, and research projects.

The presentation of the Swedish partners highlighted the current initiatives implemented with the participation of Ukrainian institutions. SLU actively involves Ukrainian scientists in projects with the support of Swedish Institute and the European Union including programs for environmental restoration in Ukraine (RETURN), sustainable development of animal husbandry (SuLAWe), integrated wastewater monitoring (EU-WISH), capacity development in quantitative methods (QuantiFOR) and other international research projects. Special attention was paid to the proposals of the NUBiP of Ukraine on new areas of cooperation, which opens up prospects for creating joint scientific platforms and research centers.

In addition, the partners discussed the possibility of joining the future program Small Grants from the Swedish Institute. In December 2025, a new contest will open as part of SI Ukraine Cooperation Programme, which provides grants for preparatory projects (from SEK 100,000 to SEK 200,000) for 6-12 months to start partnerships and pilot initiatives.
