Participation of associate professors of the Department of Agrosphere Ecology and Ecological Control in the V International Scientific Symposium “Sustainable Development: Status and Prospects”
On January 21–24, 2026, Anna Serbenyuk and Svitlana Palamarchuk, associate professors of the Department of Agrosphere Ecology and Ecological Control, took part in the V International Scientific Symposium “Sustainable Development: Status and Prospects,” which was held in the village of Slavsko, Lviv region.
The symposium brought together leading scientists, representatives of higher education institutions, research institutions, public organizations, and experts from Ukraine and abroad to discuss topical issues related to the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in the context of contemporary global challenges, including climate change, economic transformation, environmental risks, and social change.
The organizers of the V International Scientific Symposium were:
- Lviv Polytechnic National University;
- V. Chornovil Institute for Sustainable Development;
- NGO “Institute for Sustainable Development and Circular Economy;
- NGO “All-Ukrainian Ecological League.
The event program included plenary sessions, thematic sections, and an exchange of experiences between Ukrainian and foreign scientists.
The symposium discussed the following issues:
- environmental safety and adaptation to climate change;
- sustainable management of natural resources;
- development of a circular economy;
- greening of the agricultural sector;
- integration of sustainable development principles into the educational process;
- formation of an ecological culture and awareness in society.

As part of the symposium, Anna SERBENYUK, Associate Professor of the Department of Agrosphere Ecology and Environmental Control, presented a scientific report on “Educational approaches to the development of environmental awareness in conditions of anthropogenic pressure.” In her report, the speaker focused on the role of environmental education as a key tool for shaping a responsible attitude towards the environment in conditions of growing technogenic and anthropogenic impact. She discussed modern educational approaches, interactive teaching methods, interdisciplinary connections, and the importance of practice-oriented forms of work in training future environmental specialists. Particular attention was paid to the formation of environmental culture and awareness among young people as a prerequisite for sustainable development of society.

Associate Professor Svitlana PALAMARCHUK gave a presentation on “Assessing the environmental impact of the Emerald Network territories,” which highlighted current issues related to the conservation of biodiversity and natural habitats within the Emerald Network. The report examined methodological approaches to assessing the impact of human activity on protected areas and analyzed the environmental risks and challenges associated with the economic use of land. It emphasized the importance of integrating environmental impact assessment procedures into the management system for protected areas in accordance with European standards and Ukraine's international obligations.


The presentations sparked lively interest among symposium participants and served as a basis for professional discussions on the role of education and environmental control in ensuring sustainable development. The participation of the department's teachers in the international scientific event contributed to the popularization of scientific research results, the exchange of experience, and the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection.
Participation in the symposium contributed to: expanding scientific contacts; exchanging experience with leading experts; discussing modern approaches to solving environmental problems; integrating the department's scientific achievements into the international scientific space.
The 5th International Scientific Symposium “Sustainable Development: Status and Prospects” became an important platform for interdisciplinary dialogue aimed at finding effective solutions to ensure sustainable development in Ukraine and worldwide. The participation of representatives of the department confirms the active scientific position of the team and its contribution to the development of modern environmental science and education.
