RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIVITIES
The main facility for conducting field research by the academic staff and graduate students of the Department is the Phytopathology Laboratory at the NULES of Ukraine Research Station “Agronomic Research Station,” located in the village of Pshenychne, Vasylkiv District, Kyiv Region. Laboratory research is carried out at the accredited Specialized Research Laboratory of Mycology and Phytopathology.
The Department’s research activities are focused on the study and practical solution of current problems in phytopathology:
-
studying the ecological and biological properties of micromycetes in agrobiocenoses and their role in the etiology and pathogenesis of plant diseases;
-
providing an ecological basis for measures aimed at preventing and limiting the development of the most widespread and harmful diseases of agricultural crops;
-
developing new varieties of winter and spring rapeseed and winter wheat with group resistance to the most dangerous diseases;
-
evaluating the efficacy of chemical and biological crop protection products against diseases;
-
studying diseases of ornamental flowering plants;
-
investigating the ecological and biological characteristics of pathogens affecting cultivated mushrooms and developing measures for their protection.
The Problem Research Laboratory “Mycology and Phytopathology” carries out:
-
diagnosis of diseases of agricultural crops, ornamental flowering plants, and cultivated mushrooms;
-
phytopathological examination of seeds and planting material;
-
isolation of micromycetes into pure culture;

The Department of Phytopathology named after Academician V. F. Peresypkin hosts a Student Research Group established pursuant to Rector’s Order No. 656 dated July 12, 2010. The group has a strong tradition of scientific and educational activities and plays an important role in developing students’ research competencies. It is here that participants acquire the fundamentals of research work, gain practical experience in conducting studies, analyzing research findings, and presenting their results.
Many alumni of the group have become qualified specialists and have successfully applied the knowledge and skills they acquired in industrial practice, research, and teaching.
Members of the group present and discuss their research findings at scientific seminars, which constitute an important component of their scientific training. This form of professional communication is particularly useful and engaging for junior students, as it provides them with an opportunity to become more familiar with the activities of one of the faculty’s core departments, broaden their understanding of current areas of phytopathological research, and identify a promising direction for their future research work.
