A well-rounded person is one who embraces as many aspects of life as possible. It is encouraging that students’ leisure time is associated not only with entertainment and recreation, but also with productive scientific work. The activities of the Student Scientific Club of the Department of Phytopathology named after Academician V.F. Peresypkin at the Faculty of Plant Protection, Biotechnology and Ecology are a testament to this.

The Student Scientific Club at the Department has a long-standing tradition. It is here that its members acquire the fundamentals of scientific research. Many of them have gone on to become qualified specialists and have applied their knowledge in industry, research, and teaching.

Students’ research is focused on addressing current issues in phytopathology. Within the Problem Research Laboratory of Mycology and Phytopathology, students have the opportunity to master various methods for diagnosing diseases of agricultural crops, develop their skills in pathogen identification, and study their biological and ecological properties. Subsequently, the skills they acquire prove valuable in developing measures to control the development and harmful effects of phytopathogens.

The results of their research are presented and discussed at open scientific seminars. This form of academic interaction is particularly useful and engaging, especially for junior students, as it provides an opportunity to become acquainted with one of the Faculty’s fundamental departments and, to a significant extent, to determine the direction of their future research based on the experience of their fellow students.

Members of the Student Scientific Club also actively participate in scientific conferences at the University, national, and international levels.

Overall, the Student Scientific Club of the Department of Phytopathology named after Academician V.F. Peresypkin is precisely the kind of association that brings together like-minded students who share a common goal and work toward a specific objective: acquiring knowledge that will pave the way for their professional development as highly qualified specialists.

Key activities conducted under the auspices of the Club:

  • To familiarize students with various methods for diagnosing diseases of agricultural crops;

  • To develop students’ skills in identifying the causal agents of plant diseases;

  • To study the biological characteristics of microorganisms that cause plant diseases;

  • To investigate the ecology of phytopathogenic fungi;

  • To monitor diseases in plant agroecosystems;

  • To assess the susceptibility of agricultural crop varieties to diseases under field conditions;

  • To organize educational visits to leading research institutions specializing in plant protection;

  • To collect scientific material for the preparation of publications;

  • To prepare students for participation in scientific conferences;

  • To conduct scientific seminars based on research findings;

  • To hear and discuss reports on the activities of the Student Scientific Club, etc.

Information about Club meetings and announcements of various scientific events is posted on the Club notice board (Department of Phytopathology named after Academician V.F. Peresypkin, Academic Building No. 4).
