Graduated from the Rozhyshche Zooveterinary Technical School (Volyn Region) in 1973 and worked as a veterinary assistant at the Melitopolsky breeding farm in the Zaporizhzhia Region. After serving in the Soviet Army (1973–1975) and graduating from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (1976–1981), he worked as a secretary of the Komsomol organisation with the rights of a district committee (1981–1984), then as a postgraduate student, assistant and associate professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the aforementioned academy (1984–1998). 
From 1999 to 2001, he was a doctoral student at the A.K. Skorokhodko Department of Animal Hygiene at the National Agrarian University.
In October 1989 he defended his PhD thesis "Acid-base balance and electrolyte composition of blood of newborn calves in normal and acute digestive disorders" in the speciality 03.00.04 - biochemistry, at the Specialised Academic Council of the All-Union Research Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medicine named after Y.R. Kovalenko (Moscow).
On 27 June 2002, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Monitoring of heavy metals in the environment of Ukraine and ways to reduce their excess in animals" in the specialty 16.00.06 - animal hygiene and veterinary sanitation.
He was appointed as an Associate Professor in 1992 and a Professor in 2003.

In recent years, he has been focusing on the development of a system of veterinary and sanitary support and maintenance of organic poultry farming in Ukraine.
He was the head of a number of research topics carried out by the department's scientists in recent years: 
1. "To study the migration of stable strontium in the animal food chain and develop a system to mitigate its negative effects on the body and products".
2. "Monitoring, veterinary control and measures to reduce the content of heavy metals in the body of animals in the regions of Ukraine with their excess in the environment".
3. "To study the impact of nanoscale particles of biogenic metals as new generation disinfectants on micro- and macroorganisms and the environment".
4. "To develop a complex preparation (briquette) of prolonged action to ensure the health of lactating cows from different biogeochemical zones of Ukraine".
5. "To develop a system of veterinary and sanitary support for organic poultry farming technology in Ukraine".

He was a member of two specialised academic councils for the defence of doctoral dissertations, a member of the university's academic and coordination councils, a member of the academic council of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and chairman of the scientific and technical council of the Research Institute of Animal Health.
He is a member of the editorial board of the journals Modern Poultry Farming of Ukraine, Veterinary Biotechnology, Livestock of Ukraine, and Ukrainian Journal of Veterinary Sciences. 
For a long time, by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, he was a member of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
Almost 600 scientific and educational works have been published. Among them: 1 textbook, 20 manuals, 11 monographs, 1 VNTP-APC-23.06, 31 scientific and practical recommendations, 78 educational and methodological developments, 3 standard curricula, 72 Patents of Ukraine, 5 Technical Regulations of Ukraine, 214 articles and 160 abstracts.
