From automation to environmental innovations: NUBiP student gets double diploma and Erasmus+ international experience

Studying at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine opens the students wide opportunities for international academic development. A striking example of this is Valeriya PLEMIANNYK, a graduate student in specialty G7 «Automation, computer-integrated technologies and robotics» in the scientific area, who, thanks to the international cooperation of NUBiP of Ukraine and Poznań University of Life Sciences, studies under a double degree program and participates in prestigious international educational projects.

It is studying at NUBiP of Ukraine, that has become for Valeria the starting point for obtaining education at two universities at the same time and gaining unique international experience. While studying at the Poznań University of Life Sciences, she had the opportunity to join the Erasmus+ program and complete a blended intensive course «Monitoring and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Field of Biological Waste Management».

The program was jointly implemented by the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Natural Sciences (BOKU), the Poznań University of Life Sciences, the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies. This format of cooperation demonstrates the importance of international partnerships for the development of modern education and science, because combining the experience of leading European universities creates for students access to the best educational practices and technologies.

The first stage of the program was held online and was devoted to studying the sources of greenhouse gas formation, international regulatory documents, modern monitoring methods and innovative emission reduction technologies. Students were working on the analysis of real cases and performed joint tasks in international teams, developing the skills of intercultural communication and scientific interaction.

The practical part of the program, which took place in Vienna, became the most intense. The participants visited modern waste management facilities, including sorting complexes, landfills, biogas plants, waste processing enterprises and composting stations. This made it possible to see with my own eyes how modern waste management systems work and the principles of the circular economy are implemented in the countries of the European Union.

The international research quest «Vienna Scavenger Hunt» took a special place in the program. Working in international teams, students were studying the system of sustainable development of Vienna, analyzed the organization of separate waste collection, estimated the volume of waste generation and got acquainted with practical tools of municipal environmental management.

During the practical sessions, the participants worked with modern equipment for monitoring emissions, applied both traditional and innovative measurement methods, and analyzed the results using specialized software for modeling the dispersion of greenhouse gases.

Valeria's participation in the Erasmus+ program was another confirmation that the international cooperation of NUBiP of Ukraine with leading European universities creates real opportunities for the professional and scientific development of students. Double degree programs, academic mobility and joint educational projects contribute to the integration of Ukrainian education into the European academic space, expand the horizons of young scientists and help form a new generation of highly qualified specialists.

For the student and academic community of NUBiP of Ukraine, such stories are a convincing example of the fact that international partnership is not only agreements between universities, but real opportunities for study, scientific research, professional growth and representation of Ukraine on the international educational arena.
